Frequently Asked Questions

  • Description teI offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to learn what is bringing you to therapy, your goals, and if I think psychotherapy can help you. This is also your time to determine whether I am a good fit for you. You might want to ask me about my background and training, how payment works, or how we might work together. If we think this is a good fit, we can set up a time together.

In our first session, we will dive deeper into your goals and how we will work together. I will also go over office policies and confidentiality. I may also have you fill out any outstanding forms.

  • Sessions are often 50-minutes, which is the length of a standard clinical hour.

  • My 50-minute session fee is $250. I am out-of-network with most insurances. For everyone out-of-network, I provide superbills for you to submit to your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement. I know getting the help you need can be expensive. I do provide a limited number of sliding-scale slots.

I also provide monthly superbills, which you may use for possible reimbursement from your insurance. I can talk you through what that means for you. You will be responsible for ensuring your insurance carrier can use this reimbursement option. The “No Surprises Act”—regarding charges for out-of-network services provides federal protections for clients engaged in out-of-network services. For more information, please click here.

  • In the past, I was paneled with a few insurance companies and billed them directly. What I noticed, though, was that even when I did everything right on my end, many of my clients still ended up with unexpected bills they weren’t prepared for.

Because I don’t want finances to feel like another source of stress or confusion, I’ve chosen not to bill insurance directly. This way, you’ll always know the cost up front, without surprise charges later. It also gives me the flexibility to focus fully on your care, rather than on insurance requirements, so we can shape therapy around your needs—not around paperwork. To support clients in making the most of their Out Of Network Benefits, I utilize Thrizer.

  • Did you know your insurance might help cover the cost of therapy, even if I’m not in-network? Many plans offer out-of-network benefits, which means you could get reimbursed for a portion of each session.

And you don’t have to figure this out on your own. I can check your benefits for you and let you know exactly what you’d pay per session before we even get started.

If you have OON benefits, you may only owe a copay at each session instead of the full fee. Want to see what that looks like for you? Contact me and let’s see.

  • Please don’t let my rate keep you from reaching out. More often than not, I’m able to work with people to find an arrangement that feels manageable.

And if it turns out I’m not the right financial fit, I’ll do my best to connect you with another therapist who may be able to meet your needs. My priority is that you land in a supportive space, whether that’s with me or with someone else.

  • Therapy is not one-size-fits-all. Your treatment plan will be made through us working together to determine how I can best support you and how frequent your sessions should be. In the beginning, we meet at least weekly to build rapport. Once we establish trust and understanding, most clients find that once a week or every other week is sufficient, and yet, for others, there are times when coming twice a week is helpful. We will figure out together what makes the most sense.

  • I kindly request that you provide 24 hours’ notice when canceling or rescheduling an appointment. If sessions are canceled with less than 24 hours' notice, you may be charged for the whole session. I understand that emergencies happen, and sometimes late cancellations are unavoidable. That is why I offer 2 free late cancellations in a 12-month period. After that, depending on circumstances, I may need to charge for missed sessions.

  • This is a tough question and one only you can answer. I have been on your side of the couch, and I know it takes time to trust a new person with the intimate details of your life and that the first few sessions can feel awkward. Some people find that utilizing the free consultation call or emailing me helps reduce that discomfort. For others, they find that after a couple of sessions, they find their previous anxiety dissipated. Do not hesitate to reach out to me with your questions. We can work together to get you the support you need.

And if I am not the right fit for you, that is ok! Let me know, and I can help refer you to a therapist who might better fit your needs.

  • I am here for the journey, no matter how brief or long. It depends on what you need. After a few sessions together (usually 2-4), we will have a sense of what we are working on and what it might take for you to reach your goals.

  • At this time, my practice is predominantly virtual. This allows you to engage in therapy wherever you have a private space to talk and an internet connection. I have found that many clients enjoy having their sessions in physical spaces that are familiar and safe. I use a HIPAA-compliant platform for all sessions.

I do have a few number of in person sessions. While these are currently full, I do prioritize current clients to fill these spots.
